Lucas Wiper Motors RestorationOverviewThese are 12 volt, DC motor/gear box units that operate the windscreen wipers. Early models were attached to the windscreen and later ones installed under the bonnet, sometimes attached to the firewall. The photos show several different restored Lucas motors.Photographs
TroubleshootingIf the motor runs intermittently, slowly or not at all there could be several reasons. There may be a loose electrical connection or blown fuse. The brushes in the motor have worn out. The motor bearings need lubricating. THe grease in the gear box has stiffened.
RestorationWe completely disassemble the motor, clean all restorable parts and replace those worn out. The body is refinished with an appropriate color. Entire unit is then reassembled, lubricated and bench tested.
